I have enjoyed photographing high-quality artwork for artists and collectors for many years, with many references in the Bay Area. I have a studio in Oakland set up specifically for documenting artwork; for larger pieces and installation work I can bring my equipment to your location.
The Formats:
I can document your work digitally, with film, or both. I have a 12mp Digital SLR that is perfect for shooting high quality detailed digital images. I like to work digitally and can give you a CD with your images on it within a few days of the shoot. I can also crop or modify your images to your specifications, and make portfolio prints for you.
If you are interested in obtaining the most detail possible from your work, I can make ultra-high-quality 4”x 5” (film) transparencies or negatives, which can be scanned by me or a third party to create super-high resolution digital files.
I can also shoot your work in traditional 35mm slide, or 2 1/4 (medium format).
The Nitty-Gritty:
As an artist myself I try to keep my rate reasonable for others. Please contact me for an estimate. I usually work with an hourly rate, with a minimum of 2 hours per job. I like to have two weeks notice for us to schedule a time to photograph your work; if I have less than 3 days notice there will be a 50% rush fee. You are welcome to be there while I work, but for efficiency’s sake, general conversation is best kept for another time.
Questions I will have for you when we talk:
- How big is the work?
- How many pieces are there?
- Describe the work for me (what medium, 2 or 3-dimensional, relief, etc.).
- Do you want one image of each piece, or do you want detail shots as well?
- Is any part of your work especially reflective?
- Do you have any special requests for how your work is shot?
- What format(s) do you want me to use?
